Spanish Fork, UT

pergolas Spanish Fork awnings Spanish Fork carports Spanish ForkSpanish Fork is a city in southern Utah County and a part of the Provo-Orem Metropolitan Statistical Area. The U.S. Census Bureau reported that the area had a population of about 36,900 as of 2013. Spanish Fork is developing a bit faster than Springville and Payson, its nearest neighbors.

The city maintains the use of alternative energy sources. The year 2008 marks the completion of the towns wind project. This 9-turbine wind energy project can generate around 2.1 megawatts. At full production, the wind project can power up to 1,200 households.

In addition to wind energy, this great town also supports a hydropower energy project. In 2011, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation reported that there are plans to establish a hydropower plant in the area southeast of the city, which is where the Spanish Fork Canyon leads away from town. The government agency also announced that this endeavor will be financed by private investors. The proposed project is expected to have a maximum output of 8 megawatts, with an annual output that will reach up to 23,000 megawatt-hours.

Five Fun Events in Spanish Fork Each Year

1. Fiesta Days honors the Latino cultural roots in the Utah Valley. Spanish, Mexican, and Latin American people would flock this event, which is held every July. The event features a craft fair, duck race, fireworks, and a week-long rodeo.

2. Spanish Fork is popular in summertime for its splash pad and playground. The splash pad is usually operating during daylight hours from the middle of May until September.

3. Taking place on a Saturday in September that’s closest to a full moon, this cute town celebrates the Harvest Moon Hurrah. Activities include children’s crafts and activities as well as live entertainment.

4. The Festival of Lights is celebrated during the period that runs from Thanksgiving to the New Year.

5. The Festival of Colors (also call Holi Festival) is held by the Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple every year, which is attended by thousands of people from all over the country. It is the biggest such festival held in the Western hemisphere.
