Payson, Utah

Payson is a smaller city in Utah County. It was settled in 1850 by the early members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In 2010 the population was nearly 20,000. The city is led by the first write-in candidate to defeat an incumbent mayor in the state of Utah, Rick Moore.

Payson is the home to many festivals throughout the year. In July, the annual Scottish Heritage Festival. Every August, an annual Salmon Supper. Every Labor Day weekend, the Onion Days festival is held. In Memorial Park, they have been hosting band concerts since the early 1950s.

It is a city well known for a few things. Most of the hit movie, Footloose was filmed there in 1984. Some popular spots were Payson High School and Sudsie’s, a local car wash.The singer-songwriter Jewel was born here. It is also the hometown of Don Bluth, Disney animator, and film producer.
