In the southeast region of the Salt Lake Valley lies Draper City. Measuring at about 30 square miles, it is the 10th largest city in Utah when it comes to land area. It was originally called Willow Creek by the Mormon Pioneers who settled there in 1849. Today, it’s nestled up against he north side of Point of the Mountain to the south, and the Wasatch front to the east.
Draper is home to Utah’s first Ikea, and the PGP corporation, which specializes in public key cryptography, and the headquarters of 1-800-Contacts. Musician’s Friend has a call center there, and the Utah State Prison is the largest employer in the city limits.
The Traverse Mountain Range on the south and the Wasatch Mountain Range on the east highlight the city’s terrain. The city shares its borders with South Jordan, Riverton, and Sandy, and it is just 25 minutes away from world-renowned skiing destinations in Brighton, Snowbird, Solitude, and Alta.
If you love the outdoors, you’ll truly enjoy the area. With over 90 miles of trail, and wide spaces dedicated for hiking, equestrian, and cycling activities, this city is a paradise for adventure seekers and outdoor enthusiasts. And did you know Draper City has the world’s best sites for hang gliding and paragliding? Point of the Mountain has a couple of very popular sites for hang gliding, and offers some amazing views of the valley below.
Draper City takes pride in its uniquely beautiful tourism spots. There are plenty of great places to stay and tour; the city hosts many museums, parks and trails, places to shop and eat, movie theaters, fun centers, and outdoor recreation areas, including attractions like the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium just west of the freeway, the Draper Historical Society & Museum near 123rd South, and Off the Wall Comedy Improv at the Draper Historic Theater in the same area.
The outdoors are a big draw for native Utahns as well as visitors— but those of us that live here need protection from the sun, rain, and snow. Awnings Unlimited focuses on building the patio covers that suit your home, and give you the sorts of outdoor spaces that really make a difference all year round.
