Bountiful is a great place to live and is situated just north of Salt Lake City. As of 2010, the area has around 42,500 residents, a slight increase from 41,300 in the year 2000. Because of its rapid population, growth due to the development of suburbs from the 1940s to 1960s, Bountiful is the biggest city in Davis County. By 1985, it was surpassed by Layton. Today, it ranks as the 15th largest city in Utah.
Perrigrine Sessions and his family were among the first settlers in Bountiful. The city took its name from its reputation as a “bountiful” garden place. “Bountiful” is also named after a city mentioned in the Book of Mormon. In 1892, Bountiful was incorporated into a city with Joseph L. Holbrook as its first mayor. Through the efforts of its residents, the city had electric lights in 1907.Bountiful is a suburban area with plenty of attractions, including the Bountiful Davis Art Center, just off of Main and Center, and not much farther away, one of Primary Children Hospital’s rehab centers. Further from town center, one can find the Bountiful Ridge Golf Course, the South Davis Recreation Center, and not far north in nearby Farmington, the Lagoon theme park and waterpark. Further west than Farmington Bay is the Antelope Island State Park, where bison and other wildlife can be seen.
Bountiful City enjoys a slightly more humid continental weather than some of the surrounding area, ranging from warm summers to severely cold winters. With that humidity, comes more rain and snow.
