Utah passed a resolution providing the organization and settlement of Fillmore city in 1851. The city was named after the President of the United States, Millard Fillmore. Two companies were sent out to build the city in December of 1851. They started with the school, which was made out of cottonwood logs, and then they began building on the statehouse, the first wing of a monumental structure that would be the capital building. Originally the city of Fillmore was planned to be the capital of Utah but then was later moved to Salt Lake City. The statehouse in Fillmore still stands today and is currently the oldest government building in Utah.

Fillmore was officially incorporated on January 12, 1867. Growth and development have been steadily moving forward since the beginning. It began as a fort, then a town and now it is a flourishing city. The current population is approximately 2,300. The city of Fillmore has developed quite nicely, now providing its citizens with shopping, agriculture, and dining; including The Garden of Eat’n, 5 buck pizza, and Cluff’s Drive-in. All of which are great places to eat and Cluff’s Drive-in may be home to the best burger and fries in Utah.
