Spanish Fork, UT
Spanish Fork is a city in southern Utah County and a part of the Provo-Orem Metropolitan Statistical Area. The U.S. Census Bureau reported that the area had a population of about 36,900 as of 2013. Spanish Fork is developing a bit faster than Springville and Payson, its nearest neighbors.
The city maintains the use of alternative energy sources. The year 2008 marks the completion of the towns wind project. This 9-turbine wind energy project can generate around 2.1 megawatts. At full production, the wind project can power up to 1,200 households.
In addition to wind energy, this great town also supports a hydropower energy project. In 2011, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation reported that there are plans to establish a hydropower plant in the area southeast of the city, which is where the Spanish Fork Canyon leads away from town. The government agency also announced that this endeavor will be financed by private investors. The proposed project is expected to have a maximum output of 8 megawatts, with an annual output that will reach up to 23,000 megawatt-hours.
